A 41-year-old who got into a silver Mercedes minicab in Old Street on Sunday at 2.25am was told by the driver that he would only take her home if she "did something for him".
She refused and was punched in the face by the driver.
She hit him back before getting out of the car.
The driver is Turkish-looking. He was wearing a grey casual jacket and a baseball cap.
Police said women using minicabs late at night should be on their guard.
